AGIS of Florida wins company challenge,
raises money to benefit Dechat family following plane crash
WINTER PARK, Fla., August 1, 2007—Two Florida locations of AGIS, a full-service insurance agency with an office in Winter Park, have teamed together to walk nearly 900 miles in raising money to support the Dechat family in Sanford, Fla..
The AGIS offices in St. Petersburg and Winter Park joined the company’s Indianapolis location to challenge AGIS’s locations in Detroit and Jacksonville, Fla., to a team walking contest. The winning team walked 895 miles jointly, with the losing team agreeing to make financial contributions to the charity or cause of the winning team’s choosing. The winning walkers in Winter Park, St. Petersburg and Indianapolis chose the local Dechat family as beneficiaries, who will receive $650 from AGIS contributions. The presidents of each AGIS office also made a monetary contribution in conjunction with the fundraiser.
The Dechats were victims of a plane that crashed into a neighborhood on July 10. The couple Milagros Dechat, 33, and Peter Dechat, 36, were seriously injured and transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where they remain in critical condition. Daniel, a 10-year-old son, was transported to Cincinnati Burn Center with burns over 80 percent to 90 percent of his body.
“The tragic and heartbreaking events of a couple weeks ago touched many throughout the AGIS family,” said Andria Herr, president of AGIS’s Florida operations. “Everyone was extremely motivated to do our part, however small, to come to the aid of this family who so desperately needs our support.”
AGIS made the donation to the Dechat Family Fund on July 31.
